Reverqnd Horton Heat w/ Deadbolt

Buy Tickets

Recently, the Reverend Horton Heat, aka Jim Heath, had something along the lines of what he calls an epiphany.

He's a little tired of being taken so seriously-well, maybe not seriously, exactly, but you get the idea-and lately he's noticed that some of his funnier, country-tinged songs were his biggest crowd pleasers. Besides, being entertaining is what this is all about, right?

So, ladies and gents, roll your smokes up in your sleeve and hold on to your cowboy hats, it's time to take a trip back to a time before slick, over-produced country became the norm-a time when outlaws wrote songs about being without a pot to piss in-or at least about psycho ex-boyfriends and deadbeat girlfriends that spend your paycheck faster than you can say Lone Star.

Welcome to Laughin' and Cryin' with the Reverend Horton Heat a record full of country-heavy tunes about bad habits, well-meaning but clueless husbands, ever-expanding beer-guts and, well, Texas. It wouldn't be a Reverend Horton Heat record without a song or-in this case, two-about the Lone Star State. And, while Laughin' and Cryin' marks a detour from the hard-driving punkabilly of the Rev's last record, 2004's Revival, this time tending toward honk, there's still some shit-kickers ["Death Metal Guys"] to let you know that Heath and crew still mean business.

Biography: Eek-A-Mouse
Born: Ripton Joseph Hylton
November 19, 1957. Kingston, Jamaica, West Indies.

It is not only Eek-A-Mouse's 6 feet 6 inches height that make him one of Jamaica's most individual talents. He has created a style all his own, and gone on to become something of an international phenomenon quite apart from the rest of the world of reggae. Hylton's unusual name was originally that of a racehorse upon which he frequently lost money; when the horse finally won a race, he had, of course, refused to back it.

BAND OF HEATHENS

Buy Tickets

The formation of The Band of Heathens is as natural and organic as the music they create. In early spring 2006, the three principle songwriters, Colin Brooks, Ed Jurdi and Gordy Quist, were sharing the bill every Wednesday night at the venerable Austin club Momo's. Originally, it started as each songwriter performing his own set. But in a short time they started sharing the stage equally and collaborating on each other's songs, with bassist Seth Whitney as the anchor of the rhythm section. The Wednesday night series was billed as "The Good Time Supper Club." Largely improvised and unrehearsed, the shows quickly gained in popularity and word spread throughout Austin that if you wanted live music on Wednesday night, Momo's was the place to be.

A misprint in a local paper billed the act as "The Heathens." The moniker stuck and soon The Band of Heathens began to cultivate a loyal and growing legion of fans that immediately took to the expert musicianship, the finely-crafted songs and the band's distinct quality of having three front men, each one of whom sings, writes and plays lead guitar. In March 2007, drummer John Chipman joined the band and helped fortify their country-soul-rock-and-roll sound.

The Band of Heathens were recognized at the 2006/2007 Austin Music Awards as the Best New Band, and have since taken the show on the road across the country, working as hard as any band on the scene right now.
While their first two releases were live albums, Live from Momo's, and Live from Antone's (a DVD/CD set), the Band of Heathens are now releasing their studio debut, appropriately and simply titled, The Band of Heathens. Produced by the legendary Ray Wylie Hubbard, the album features the Heathens as live as ever, only this time they're in a recording studio with special guests, Patty Griffin, Stephen Bruton, Gurf Morlix, and Ray Wylie himself. The Heathens are currently touring 200+ dates a year across the country as ambassadors of Austin-American soul.

Trampled By Turtles

TRAMPLED BY TURTLES
Trampled by Turtles is an acoustic quintet from Duluth, MN. Based on their instrumentation, the initial instinct is to view the band as a bluegrass or new-grass outfit, but spend more than a cursory moment with their music and it is clear this tag doesn’t really fit.
For those who are simply fans of music, not bound by rules or forms, Trampled by Turtles take pieces of it all and just play from the heart. Call it alt-bluegrass, nontraditional string, indie-folk, rock-grass, punk-grass or anything else, they don’t care what name you put on it, just show up with an open mind and it won’t be long until you fall under their spell. Like all of us, where they were raised has influenced what they are and these guys didn’t grow up in southern roots country, they come from way up north where folks do it a little different. When was the last time you saw crowd surfing brought on by an acoustic string band without any drums?
SF Bay Guardian had this to say about the TBTs' unique take on acoustic roots music: "Shooting sparks in the face of folk traditionalism, the quintet approaches the banjo and mandolin with a level of brash recklessness hardly heard since the now-mythical reign of Uncle Tupelo. Bill Monroe and Joe Strummer would both be proud."
TBT came together in 2003 when several local bands fell apart around the same time. Bandleader/vocalist/songwriter/guitarist Dave Simonett began playing with mandolin player Erik Berry as an acoustic duo at which point they met banjoist Dave Carroll. Soon they picked up bass player Tim Saxhaug and “just kind of started jamming in living rooms and playing for fun” explains Simonett. “It was kind of like a side project, and then eventually everybody else’s band split up so we started doing this one full-time.”

Rise Up Reggae w/ DJ Weez and Special Live musical Guest Don Chani

What began as a group of friends with common interests in music evolved naturally into the current configuration that is Don Chani. The lead singer and principal songwriter, Mark Shaddock, spent time in Jamaica as a teenager absorbing the music and culture that is so strongly associated with the island nation. After meeting Erick Bohorquez (lead guitar, vocals), Oney, and Jacob Benenate aka Dr. Dubbist (drums), they soon fused their musical styles with the decidedly reggae oriented drumming style of Dr. Dubbist and latin influences of Erick Bohorquez. As Don Chani grew to encompass a larger number of members, their warm organic sound was raised to new levels with the addition of keyboardist Matt Jacobs, rhythm guitarist Mike Franklin, bassist Nico Sanchez, third singer Chris Nerren, and horn player Jason Frey. Drawing from an era that many consider to be reggae’s golden age, the late 60s through the late 70s, and the latin influences of two of its members, Don Chani has carved out a unique sound unmatched by any of its contemporary counterparts. Don Chani regularly tours and is a mainstay at the state’s biggest reggae festival, The Austin Reggae Festival. Don Chani has shared the stage with reggae greats such as The Skatalites, Culture, Eek A Mouse, Luciano, Sister Carol, The Wailing Souls, Morgan Heritage, The Meditations. The band recently released its first album, “From the Hilltops” and a corresponding dub album, “Dub the Hilltops.” FREE SHOW!!!

TR3 Featuring Tim Reynolds w/ Marcus Eaton

Buy Tickets

Born in Wiesbaden, Germany, the son of a devoutly religious military man, Tim spent much of his childhood moving-from Alaska to St. Louis and through much of the Bible-belt Midwest.

In a statement by Reynolds, "I come from nowhere mostly. My dad was in the Army so we moved around alot. Germany is where I was born, and after that we lived on a farm in Indiana, then on an army base in Alaska, then to Kansas, then to Missouri, where we lived the longest (thus the nowhere). Then I moved to Virginia, and I was there for 17 years or so. Now I live in New Mexico and this is the best place I could be. I mostly come from space."

As the child of pious, fiercely conservative parents, Reynold's musical introduction began at age 12, playing electric bass before writhing congregations of ecstatic worshippers three times a week (over 1000 times) until his high school graduation. Tiring of the constraints of imposed conservatism, he secretly plunged into jazz and "forbidden" late '60s and early '70s psychedelic rock. At age 18, he left home to join a group of "experimental" musicians. After absorbing much from them and the dozen other bands (from disco to country) that followed, he eventually settled in Charlottesville, Virginia.

There he founded TR3. It was in this environment that Tim Reynolds could explore his art, with impromptu performances on sitar, solo jazz guitar, solo djembe, twelve string guitar, violin, and mandolin. Tim's influences, which include Carlos Santana, Jimi Hendrix, Marilyn Manson, Bob Marley, Nine Inch Nails, and Led Zeppelin, among others, are indirectly felt in the fabric of Tim's power trio and solo projects.

Overall, Reynolds is a guitarist who rises above the mere mastery of chops to a virtual state of communion with his instrument. Reynolds makes use of every capacity the guitar possesses. He has brought a whole new sensibility to his instrument with his wide-ranging musical ability. From progressive rock, straight-up jazz and high-powered funk fusion guitar, to bass, piano, sitar, mandolin, violin, and a plethora of ethnic percussion instruments. When this self-taught musician performs it is a symphony of the senses.

After 17 or so years in Charlottesville, Virginia, Tim now resides

Split Lip Rayfield
Hometown: Wichita, KS

Bluegrass worthy of being blasted out of the windows of a Plymouth Barracuda with 451 Hemi engine. Metal and jazz like freakouts done acoustically. Arising out of the ashes of Scroat Belly, the Lip's live shows were the stuff of legend. They whipped crowds into a sweaty frenzy—Jeff hunched over his homemade, gas-tank bass "The Stitchgiver," Kirk breaking guitar strings by the dozen and changing them fast enough to ensure himself a place on any NASCAR pit crew, Wayne scorching his fire-proofed mandolin, and Eric, looking the part of a Civil War re-enactor, doing things to a banjo that Eddie Van Halen wishes he’d thought of.

Jake Sharon...
stand-up comedian/Extreme Geek!

Jake Sharon is an extreme geek! He jumps out of airplanes, climbs mountains, bicycles long-distances, but he's still too chicken to talk to a girl. His off-the-cuff silliness he has honed as an improv actor, coupled with his offbeat, razor sharp wit, have made him a favorite on stages across the country.

As far as his comedy career goes, Jake has done well. He was featured twice in the Boston Comedy Festival. He took first place in the Starz/ Jumpcut Stand-up contest. He won the 2007 Wits End "Survival of The Wittiest" comedy contest. He appeared in an ESPN pre-Super Bowl spot for the NFL. USA Network made him a finalist in their "Show Us Your Character" contest! 2 Nights of Colorado's Favorite Grateful Dead Band!

In the live music venues of the Rocky Mountain region, there are only a few bands that consistently draw large crowds. One of the more notorious is Shakedown Street. By virtue of their success, they have proven that Grateful Dead music is an American musical institution that is rallied by hundreds of thousands and hard to resist . By necessity and demand, there are literally dozens of Grateful Dead cover bands in this country. However, Shakedown Street has garnered a national reputation as being the mother of all Dead bands!! Shakedown Street has provided a musical and spiritual public service for "deadheads" for over 21 years. The Band has performed numerous times with former members of the Grateful Dead including; Vince Welnick (keyboards), Tom Constanten (Keyboards), and Bob Bralove (the Dead's longtime sound designer.) Shakedown Street has also played with and opened for many national acts including three shows with Hot Tuna, twice with the J.G.B. Band, twice with The David Nelson Band, Merl Suanders and the Rainforest Band, several shows with Spirit, Mitch Ryder and the Detroit Wheels, Jerry Jeff Walker, Big Brother and the Holding Company, Arlo Guthrie, The Fabulous Thunderbirds, and many others.

ASG w/ KandiCoded

Buy Tickets

Formed in the North Carolina coastline community of Wrightsville Beach in 2001, the riff-fueled, distortion-driven rock of ASG that can be found on their latest effort has actually been at the band's core since its inception.
Initially forming as a three-piece instrumental project, due to the lack of a dedicated vocalist, ASG were intensely focusing on devising tight, driving guitar riffs, locking guitarist Jason Shi in with the rhythm section of bassist Andy Ellis and drummer Scott Key.
But as time passed and no vocalist was found, Shi was eventually forced to step up to the mic.
With Shi becoming more comfortable as a frontman, the group found themselves connecting with Volcom Entertainment, who signed the band and put them in the studio in 2003, to record their debut album, ...The Amplification of Self Gratification.
In 2005 ASG found themselves in a proper studio with proper producers, Matt Hyde and Phil Caivano, recording their sophomore album, Feeling Good Is Good Enough, an album that summoned all the band's potential and spawned a thunderous hard rock creation that equaled what the band had been working towards for the past 3 years.
Shortly after completing Feeling Good Is Good Enough, second guitarist, Jonah Citty, was added to help recreate the album's sounds live, which was none too soon as the band quickly found themselves on the road with the likes of The Sword, Torche, Dwarves, and CKY.
In June 2007 ASG returned to Los Angeles to record their fourth album, entitled Win Us Over, with Matt Hyde again.
Win Us Over, is a vivid, psychedelic, and panoramic thrust that is just as much for the ears as it is for the aura; an experience in a colorful and dense cloth of abrasiveness.
Big beefy guitar riffs and melodic foreboding are soaked in Southern roadhouse whiskey, that just might be laced with psilocybin, and are hazed out through a kaleidoscopic squall that packs a walloping sonic punch.
While the ingredients of stoner rock, psychedelic metal, and angst-ridden punk rock are apparent, ASG doesn't fit under any particular category. Be you a fan of plain ol' rock and roll and don sleeveless flannels while sucking down 22 ouncers and gettin' rowdy - or enjoy waxin' deep on the bong, Win Us Over lives up to it's namesake and ensures that come January 22nd 2008, ASG won't be knocking on any doors; they'll be knocking them down.
Win Us Over is available now digitally and is set for physical release (CD &am; 2XLP) on January 22, 2007
