Fans of Pantera, ZZ TOP, Th Black Label Society and Corrosion of Conformity will no doubt find the music of The Texas Hippie Coalition every bit their equal and more!
9:00 PM Reverand Peyton's Big Damn Band with 20Twelve
Their latest full length CD, Big Damn Nation, is a hopped-up crash course in raw Delta Blues pounded out with crazed fury. But The Reverend is no modern primitive. Traces of the East Coast Piedmont Style and Southern Gospel heard in his high-energy guitar wrangling betray a clever mind, well-versed in numerous other genres, as well. Like a rabid wolf crossed with Leadbelly, Reverend Peyton bellows and howls wildly while his right thumb drops like a sledgehammer on the guitar strings, threatening to shatter his national steel under the force of his frenzied picking style.... Stomp your feet and clap your hands (boom-chank).This shit is red hot. (RH) Grade: A " -Mike Breen, Cincinnati CityBeat " - MIKE BREEN, Cincinnati CityBeat.
No Quarter is the Ultimate Led Zeppelin Experience.
There is not one Led Zeppelin Tribute band in the world that can top the experience that No Quarter has been providing to audiences across the nation. They are not your typical tribute band. No Quarter is a combination of a theatrical performance and a rock concert. People that go to the shows often feel like they have seen and heard a real Led Zeppelin concert.

Born in Kingston, Jamaica as Ripton Joseph Hylton, Eek-a-Mouse began his foray into reggae music when he was in college, releasing two roots reggae singles released under his own name, which were produced by his mathematics tutor, Mr. Dehaney, and showed a heavy influence from Pablo Moses. After working on a string of sound systems for the next few years, and issuing a few more singles, he changed his stage name in 1979 to "Eek-a-Mouse", the name of the racehorse he always bet on, and a nickname his friends had known him by for some time. He began recording for Joe Gibbs in 1979, having a hit straight away with "Once a Virgin", now showing the influence of Ranking Joe, and this was soon followed with "Wa-Do-Dem" (produced by Douglas Boothe), and "Modelling Queen", which began an association with Linval Thompson, who produced his debut Bubble Up Yu Hip album. By the end of 1980, he had linked up with producer Henry "Junjo" Lawes, with whom he had big hits in 1981 with the likes of "Virgin Girl" and a recut "Wa-Do-Dem". In 1981, he was the star of the Reggae Sunsplash Festival, cheering audiences still mourning over the death of reggae icon Bob Marley. His association with Lawes led to a string of successful singles and albums, and in 1982 his hits included "Wild Like a Tiger", "For Hire and Removal", "Do You Remember", and "Ganja Smuggling". The same year he released his second album, Wa Do Dem. The "Operation Eradication" single showed Hilton's serious side, the song inspired by the vigilante killing of close friend and fellow DJ Errol Scorcher. Skidit was released before the year was out. Further albums followed with 1983's Mouse and the Man, produced by Linval Thompson, and 1984's Mouseketeer, again produced by Lawes. He also featured on several of the live dancehall albums from the era, including the Aces International and Live at Skateland collections. In the second half of the decade his popularity begane to wane slightly, and he targeted the United States with the Assassinator album in 1985 (his first US release), produced by Anthony and Ronald Welch. He also travelled to the United Kingdom to record The King and I the same year, the album targeted at the rock crossover audience to which he had begun to appeal to. His 1988 album Eek-A-Nomics saw him begin to establish himself with an international audience, spawning a club hit with "The Freak", and he was signed by Island Records in 1989. He returned to prominence with 1991's U-Neek album, which continued the rock-oriented style, including a cover version of Led Zeppelin's "D'Yer Maker", and from which the hit single "You're The One I Need" was taken. He went through a period of relative quietness before returning in 1996 with the Black Cowboy album.
Eek-a-Mouse is a regular at Sunsplash and often teams up with reggae duo Michigan & Smiley. An album was issued of his performance in 1983. He was also featured on nu metal group P.O.D.'s album Satellite, lending his vocals to the rock-reggae track "Ridiculous." He can also be heard on OPM's album, ForThemAsses, on the track "Perfect Day." Eek-a-Mouse recorded a song with Hip-hop recording artist Ditch called "smoke it up" which is featured on Ditch's new cd Public Intoxication.
He also has a performance in the 1991 gangster movie New Jack City playing a drug-dealing Rastafarian, Fat Smitty, who comes to a shockingly grisly end.
Founded in 1987, Gang Starr built a sizable following in the early 90's, releasing classic albums like, Step in the Arena (1991) and Daily Operation (1992). Guru's lyrical style is based on battle rhymes delivered smoothly, modestly, and with sly wit; he typically avoids using overwhelming charisma, focusing instead on his rhyming ability. Over the years he has even taken on younger rappers, including Jeru the Damaja, as proteges. He is credited with DJ Premier for executive producing Jeru's debut, The Sun Rises in the East (1994).
In 1993, he released his first solo album, Jazzmatazz, Vol. 1. The album featured collaborations with Donald Byrd, N'Dea Davenport and Roy Ayers, while his second LP, Jazzmatazz, Vol. 2: The New Reality, featured Ramsey Lewis, Branford Marsalis and Jamiroquai. The Jazzmatazz albums are commonly considered some of the best rap of the early 90s, Guru's reputation was also bolstered through the continued success of Jazzmatazz, Vol. 3: Streetsoul (2000) and Baldhead Slick & Da Click (2001).
Moreover, recent Gang Starr albums have continued to garner Guru critical acclaim. Prominent Boston underground rapper Mr. Lif frequently cites Guru as a major stylistic influence; he appears as a guest with Lif on the Perceptionists' debut album, Black Dialogue (2005).
Besides Gang Starr, his Jazzmatazz and solo albums, Guru has collaborated with countless artists since the early 90s. Not only in hiphop, but also with artists from various genres such as pop, electronica/dance, acid jazz and even brass bands.
His "first proper solo album", in his own words, was Version 7.0: The Street Scriptures (2005), released with the help of producer and new backup MC Solar (who is not to be confused with MC Solaar from France). The album reached #1 on the college hip-hop charts, but was a failure with both fans and critics. It still managed to sell relatively well for an independent release.
Guru's latest project is the fourth installment in the Jazzmatazz series, entirely produced by Solar. It was released in early June 2007 and received good reviews and comments from fans.
Gang Starr's current status and future are unknown.
Oakland native Tajai began rhyming with future band mate A-Plus at age 8, while both were in elementary school. Tajai and Phesto met later in junior high school. Tajai later introduced A-Plus and Phesto to the remaining Souls of Mischief member, Opio, and the group informally formed in high school before making their major-label debut on Jive Records with their well-received album 93 'til Infinity, in 1993.
93 'til Infinity is the group's highest charting album to date (#17 Top R&B/Hip Hop Albums; #85 Billboard 200), and in January, 1998, was named one of the Top 100 Rap albums by The Source magazine.
The group stayed with Jive for one more album, 1995's No Man's Land, before being released from the label during that same year.
In 1995, following the release of the group from its major-label contract with Jive, the group officially formed the alternative hip-hop collective Hieroglyphics, with emcees Del tha Funkee Homosapien, Casual, Pep Love, Jaybiz, and producer Domino. The group participated as full members in both Hieroglyphics' studio albums: 1998's 3rd Eye Vision, and 2003's Full Circle.
The group has released two albums on the Hiero's self-owned independent label, Hieroglyphics Imperium Recordings, 1999's Focus, and 2000's Trilogy: Conflict, Climax, Resolution.
On October 30, 2006, Hierocast (Hieroglyphics' official podcast), Del tha Funkee Homosapien reported that the Souls of Mischief were currently working on their next studio album with Prince Paul (De La Soul, Gravediggaz, Handsome Boy Modeling School).
The group is currently touring along with Bukue One and Serendipity Project on the Ice Cold Tour. "Tour Stories" has been released as a promo for the Ice Cold Tour and their upcoming album. Song file information indicates that the title of the next album will be Montezuma's Revenge.
Don't miss this triple bill. 3 of Denver's toughest rock bands featuring THE LORDS OF FUZZ!
Colorado Music Buzz - Review
What a wonderful gut punching, head banging, heavy feedback CD this is. Recorded at Uneven Studios, notorious for recording great albums, Bruiser grabs you by the hair and pulls until all is gone. The Lords of Fuzz sound is heavy rock mixed with moments of 1970s psychedelic, lavish thick guitar and pulsating rhythms similar to that of Black Sabbath. The most interesting and awe-inspiring moments of Bruiser however are found within bridges and song endings where the Lords of Fuzz turn more experimental and the instruments are approached in an unwritten way. Nevertheless, one can not listen to Bruiser without picturing Lords of Fuzz on much larger stages that they currently play on. Buy it, enjoy it, and hang the great artwork on your refrigerator.
9:30 PM Head for the Hills w/Andrew McConathy and Dan Keel
Rooted in the tradition of bluegrass, the music of Head for the Hills is a vibrant mixture of homegrown compositions, traditional harmonies, and an innovative approach to improvisation that reflects the band's experiences living the mountain life. The group's lyrical nature and songwriting seems to evoke a feeling of inspiration in listeners, often embracing nature, personal epiphanies, or even their experiences growing up around Colorado ski towns. In the live setting, Head for the Hills can venture into a myriad of musical styles while staying in a context that is still widely respected by the traditional bluegrass community.
The shared vision amongst the members of Head for the Hills is not only to carry on the spirit of bluegrass, but also to expand the general definition as we venture through the post-traditional bluegrass era. Head for the Hills seems to appeal to those who enjoy the sound of the bluegrass forefathers like John Hartford, David Grisman, or Bill Monroe, but also appeals to anybody who enjoys experiencing the excitement, innovation, or element of youth that is incorporated into each and every performance.
The foundation of Head for the Hills stretches back several years to the mountain town of Golden, Colorado, but the current lineup prefers to call Fort Collins their home. In their short but prosperous career, Head for the Hills have had the honor of performing and sharing the stage with the legendary mandolin extraordinaire David Grisman, Sam Bush, Nickel Creek, Tim O'Brien, The Infamous Stringdusters, members of Yonder Mountain String Band, Pete Wernick (Hot Rize), Drew Emmitt, Hot Buttered Rum, Tim Carbone (RRE) and Jason Hann (SCI), and Benny Galloway and the Wayword Sons among others.
2007 was a big year for the quartet as they were the winners of Yonder Mt. String Band's 2007 Northwest String Summit Band Competition held at Horning's Hideout in North Plains, OR. In addition they performed in the 2007 Telluride Bluegrass Band Competition. Head for the Hills extensive 2007 Summer Tour included stops all over the country, including Northwest String Summit-North Plains, Oregon, Telluride Bluegrass Festival, Yarmony Grass, Nederland Music and Arts Festival and many more. The band has been blazing through the country and turning heads left and right.
2008 presents another large year for Head for the Hills as The band will be embarking on Midwest, West Coast and Southeast tour over the next 6 months-hitting all major markets the country has to offer. In addition the band will be performing at many premier festivals this summer including: Wakarusa Music Festival, Northwest String Summit, Green Apple Music Festival, Yarmony Grass, and Bristol Rhythm and Roots Reunion. With direction from a Grammy award winning musician and an ever-evolving approach to progressive acoustic music, there is no telling what successes lay ahead for this group of talented musicians.
For their debut studio effort entitled, "Robber's Roost," Head for the Hills joined forces with the talented and revered producer/performer Sally Van Meter. Ms. Van Meter, among her impressive list of accomplishments, is credited for her 1994 Grammy Award Winning work on The Great Dobro Sessions as well as her work with Jerry Garcia, Bob Dylan, and David Grisman on The Songs of Jimmie Rodgers- A Tribute. In addition, she has produced albums and recordings for several artists including Yonder Mountain String Band and Open Road Bluegrass. David Glasser (Airshow Mastering) joined Head for the Hills in the mastering process of "Robber's Roost." Glasser's credits include two Grammy's for his work on the culturally significant: Anthology of American Folk Music (1997), and Screamin' and Hollerin' the Blues: The Worlds of Charley Patton (2002). Glasser has also mastered over 60 Grammy nominated records.
On "Robber's Roost", one can expect a collection of organic compositions ranging from traditional stylings to the progressive sound that has come to define these young musicians. With direction from two esteemed musical veterans, Head for the Hills is primed and ready to bring their dynamic sound to the ears of listeners far wide. Many avenues have recognized Head for the Hills as a primary avenue for the future and next phase of acoustic/NewGrass music. With just a few short years of existence, there is really no telling what is in store for these young Colorado pickers.
The life and sounds of the new millennium come crashing into those of the fifties in the songs of this modern rockabilly trio. Coming from a state known for it's tie-dyed bands, Colorado's Hillbilly Hellcats tell stories of skateboards and hippies, as well as white trash, whiskey and trailer parks. Both of the bands CD releases have received extensive college airplay, charting for weeks in the College Music Journal's lists. The disks both feature the guest drumming of Taz Bentley, known for his playing on the first three Reverend Horton Heat albums.
Take one part Reverend Horton Heat, one part Southern Culture on the Skids, one part Stray Cats, one part Gene Vincent & His Blue Caps and one part Dick Dale, put it all in a tall dirty glass and add a few shots of Everclear, then swallow The Hillbilly Hellcats if you dare. The Hellcats' chops and energy levels rival - and in some cases best - the sum of their influences.

5 Questions with Metal Bee Gees Tribute Band: Tragedy
By: Bobby Finstock on 04/7/08 @ 6:30 am
Last week I went to see a Led Zeppelin cover band near Fenway Park here in Boston. On the bill was a band called Tragedy "A Metal Tribute to the Bee Gees", when I saw that I thought about skipping out and going to another bar until around the time the Zeppelin band would be going on stage. I am so glad I didn't. Tragedy was absolutely one of the funniest/most fantastic things I have ever seen in my life. I talked to them after the show about doing an interview and ended up following them around for part of their tour so I could write about it here.
After I wrote up my article and submitted it to Rolling Stone, the fact checker for the magazine was told everything in the article was a lie. I went home and spent most of the week in bed until Mo' Royce Peterson from the band stopped at my house, apparently he was tricked by band aid Penny Lane. We both reminisced how we loved Penny Lane, he apologized for what he did to me in regards to Rolling Stone and then he agreed to be interviewed.
Normally I do five questions but since this might be the greatest band in the world... they get ten.
1) I guess the first question one has to ask is... A Metal Bee Gees tribute band, why?
Our primary objective in starting this band was to get noticed on comedy blogs. Comedy has been ignoring tragedy for years. So unfair it's not even funny!
It has been said that Ted Williams could see the seams on a baseball as it was pitched towards him. We, the genii (plural for genius, duh!) of Tragedy have huge, powerful brains in our balls (brainballs). We knew that if we took our steaming-hott metal to the sweet syrup of the Bee Gees that it would change the world forever.
2) Honestly when I heard that there was going to be a Metal Bee Gees tribute band I was prepared to skip to another bar for a bit, then you guys hit the stage and not only melted faces but changed the way I look at the world. How many other lives have you changed?
Your foolishness is forgiven. If there is one thing we have learned from our bible study class, it is forgiveness. Through the Power of Christ, we have left Homosexuality for good this time, and so can you. Change starts at home, brother.
(Note: Oddly enough after seeing Tragedy my lusting for Richard Simmons has decreased.)
3) When trying to explain this event to my friends I said you were a combination of Tenacious D, Spinal Tap, and the greatest Metal Band ever Bon Jovi (but with a sober lead guitarist), is that an accurate description? If not how would you explain your band? (sorry that was a long way for a Richie Sambora joke)
That was a joke? (Note: Not a very good one, my bad)
That is a fair description, except none of those bands played Bee Gees songs. Idiots. Though I think Barry Gibb and Jon Bon Jovi get their teeth whitened by the same dentist. If I can be half as Metrosexual as those guys, my life will be complete.
4) I once read about a musical note that when heard will make the listener shit themselves.
Oh yeah... look at me... I can read. Show off.
a) Have you ever achieved that note?
Maybe. Man, that would explain a lot of things.
b) Do you think the Bee Gees were the first band to find a note that made men want to blow another guy?
Music has inspired love and romance throughout the ages. I seriously doubt they were the first.
5) You have played shows with other tribute bands that range from Sublime Tributes to G'N'R Tributes but also with big name bands The Donnas and Umphreys McGee, do you get different reaction from playing with these other bands? And can you get me the drummer from the Donnas phone number?
Not that different. All those bands totally hit on us when we played with them.
We have played with a crazy variety of bands. It's been pretty wild. But, everybody loves Bee Gees metal. It's universal. That's why we're so popular and everyone wants to bang us.
After being with us, Torry doesn't really "hang out" anymore. Don't waste your time.
(Note: There are no confirmed reports that Tragedy ran a train on her.)
6) Complete this statement: Tragedy is_______
the opposite of Comedy.
7) Have you had bowel movements larger than Mini-Kiss?
To this point, we have not been weighing. But, we will have Lance (our intern) get right on that. I'll keep you posted.
8 ) Will there ever be a Menudo Metal Tribute Band?
Not without a lawsuit. From us.
9) What is your favorite Bee Gees song? Or is it like choosing your favorite sexual position?
Fanny Be Tender. So, yes.
10) What is next for Tragedy?
On our myspace blog you can view maps of impending decimation by Tragedy. Wherever there is a Tri-State area, Tragedy will be rising to #1 in the rankings of Heavy Metal Bee Gees tributes in said territory
Our CD can be purchased on our site. The album will be available on Itunes in the near future. Our other bands: Moi? and Children of the Unicorn.
And finally, something that no words in the English language can possibly describe, their video for Stayin' Alive:
Winners of the 2005 Telluride Bluegrass Festival Band Competition, the Badly Bent is a high energy traditional bluegrass band based in Durango, Colorado. The band features prides themselves on tight harmony vocals, award winning picking and a warm friendly stage presence. The Badly Bent has performed at many of the more prominent Colorado and New Mexico festivals and is frequently playing in and around Durango.
On the heels of recent Mile High success stories such as the Fray and Flobots, the Denver Post says this about Matthew Moon: "Tight songwriting and lush delivery prompt Colorado rock fans to tout this performer as the state's next breakout." With over 300 live performances under his belt, Matthew Moon, a Denver-to-L.A. transplant, has a rich history of recording and performance experience, a solid touring and sales base, and boasts an "elastic" voice that's compared to the likes of Paul McCartney, Freddie Mercury and Ben Folds. After seeing Moon's set at California's Del Mar Music Festival, Larry Richter (Eric Clapton's management team) called it, "One of the best performances I've seen," and promptly signed Matthew to a management deal. Shortly thereafter, Moon recorded his soon-to-be hit, "Don't Change 4 Me." The song, a catchy collaboration with Grammy-nominated artists Jesse Valenzuela (Gin Blossoms) and Danny Wilde (Rembrandts), was featured in the Budweiser 2008 Summer Olympics Promo on NBC and the end cap (closing credits) track for this past summer's hit movie, "Soccer Mom." While Moon's catalogue is described as cool folk meets smart pop, he possesses a wide vocal range that lets him go from gentle to growl, as evident earlier this year when he fronted Velvet Revolver at the Sundance Film Festival in Park City, UT. Moon was asked to front the band at the last minute when Scott Weiland missed his flight. With only an hour until show time, Moon downloaded lyrics onto his Blackberry and crammed en route to the gig. As Matt took the stage and led legends Slash, Duff, and Matt Sorum, the crowd - which was full of Sundance celebs and pop culture icons - went wild with approval. The experience led to an onslaught of attention and rumors from online blogs and the print media, including LA Weekly, Popbytes.com, Blabbermouth.net, Music Connection and Laist.com. The question: Is Moon replacing Weiland? While the answer was unquestionably no, the stir caused Moon's popularity to further grow. Notables: Moon has an extensive national fan base, which also includes 50,000 MySpace friends. ¨ Moon had two songs placed on Facebook Diaries, which boasts 68 million users. ¨ Moon is sponsored by Hyundai Motors, USA and his music will be featured in the brand's mass marketing efforts in the fall of 2008. Moon's "Foghorn Sound" is set to be used in "Truth About Kerry," a 2009 major motion picture. Moon completed a solo tour this past summer, which also included select opening slots for Peter Frampton and The Doobie Brothers. ¨ Moon grew up in Colorado and then went off to study at Boston's Berklee School of Music with the likes of John Mayer and Susan Tedeschi. Moon has released four self-produced CDs or EPs. A current resident of Venice Beach, CA, Matthew Moon is quickly emerging as one of the freshest voices in the west. His solid touring base includes frequent stops in New York City, L.A., San Francisco, Arizona, Utah, Seattle, Portland, Minneapolis, Chicago and more.
