10:00 PM Lubriphonic
Buy Tickets Lubriphonic
Digging deep and giving it all in everything they do Chicago’s Lubriphonic
specialize in a unique offering of funky rock n’ roll. The septet’s tight and
raw sound is immediately familiar, fusing the roots of soul with explosive
in-your-face delivery and sensuous R&B dance music.
The Lubriphonic sound is full of precision orchestrations made up of
blazing guitars, unison three piece horn lines, soulful songwriting, bluesy
vocals and the habit to cut the funk loose. The best description of the
band’s sound comes from Relix Magazine: “Superb, adventurous, diverse,
simply mesmerizing instrumental work. Steeped in soul, rock, pop, and
blues Lubriphonic's members play with a tenacity and precision that sets
them apart from equally proficient bands.”
Lubriphonic is the brainchild of guitarist Giles Corey and drummer Rick
King which began as a residency at Chicago’s legendary Checkerboard
Lounge, where they recruited some of the best blues, funk, and rock
musicians in the city for improvisational live sessions in which the kinetic
energy that make a band were initiated.
The evolution from performing as sidemen for the city’s most legendary
blues stars such as Buddy Guy, Otis Rush and Koko Taylor into an original
group came from the hunger of each musician to develop an intense and
simmering sound.
Guitarist Corey explains “Everyone in Lubriphonic comes from the Chicago
blues or gospel music pools. I met Rick King while playing in blues bands
in Chicago, and when we eventually wanted to start a band together all of
the cats we knew played the blues. There were and still are all these cats
that had a strong foundation in Chicago roots music who understood the
feel and the nuances, but were dying to stretch out. Lubriphonic turned out
to be a good vehicle for that.”
It’s this expression of creativity and energy at each performance that is
paramount to Lubriphonic. “We are a live band first and foremost. There's
a palpable energy emitted by any large gathering of people,” Giles
continues. “When you perform for an audience and give them positive
energy, they take what you give them, amplify it and then throw it back to
you. It's a fantastic feeling.”
Lubriphonic – made up of Giles Corey (vocals, guitar), Richard King
(drums), Ron Haynes (trumpet), Pennal Johnson (bass), Garrick Patten
(saxophone), Norman Palm (trombone) and Andrew Toombs (keyboards)
– tour extensively, crisscrossing the country playing festivals, theaters and
clubs spending over 220 days a year on the road.
Sold out shows, national tours and their evolving sound are proof enough
of how relevant Lubriphonic is going to become in the coming years. The
group’s recent studio debut, Soul Solution manages to contain the
trademark explosive live energy an accurate studio portrayal. Since first
forming in 2002 Lubriphonic already boasts a nationwide fan base, playing
to crowds opening for such acts as Buddy Guy, Maceo Parker, George
Clinton & P-Funk, The Derek Trucks Band, Jon Popper Project, The New
Mastersounds, Karl Denson, and Buckwheat Zydeco.
Entirely committed to continuing their mission, Lubriphonic is happy to be
playing the music they love and winning over new fans each new night at
each new city. “As a sideman one of the things you learned is how to be
professional. I learned how to give to an audience, no matter what. That's
what you’ll get at a Lubriphonic show.”

10:00 PM Megan Burtt & The Cure For Love w/ Tim Blane Band
Buy Tickets Megan Burtt and The Cure For Love w/ The Tim Blane Band perform.
There is no doubt in my mind that she will be very famous very soon. Ms. Burtt has a classically beautiful voice that pairs perfectly with the gorgeous guitar on It Ain't Love. Each track is perfectly suited to Burtt's voice, which stays crystal clear on each and every one.
It Ain't Love strikes me as a breakup album, but comes from a place of self-realization and empowerment. As you travel with Burtt through her lessons learned and shared stories, you come out stronger. As the title track says:
"it ain't love if you gotta try / it ain't love if you gotta hold it tight / what we had it was never right / it ain't love"

10:00 PM The Foot w/ The Say So
Buy Tickets Years in the making, Denver-based trio The Foot. officially formed in the Spring of 2008. They fuse a love of classic rock acts such as Led Zeppelin, The Beatles, and The Who with modern rock pioneers such as Muse, The Raconteurs, and Incubus to create a sound that is immediately recognizable, with a novel edge that is certainly their own.
The lifelong musicians met at university, where they found common ground and taste in music. Jeff McCollister (bass, vocals, synths) was studying classical voice when he met Phil Barrett (guitar, vocals) within the first week of their college careers and spent hours playing music together in cramped dorm rooms and performing improvisational love songs acoustically in dorm hallways to meet girls. Jeff met Noah Shomberg (drums, percussion, vocals), who was studying jazz drumming, around the same time, but they first breached the possibility of making music together two years later while studying abroad in the picturesque paradise of Rome, Italy. During his stay in Rome, Jeff visited Phil, who was studying in Granada, Spain and began to make plans for their musical future. Initial exploratory writing sessions began in earnest immediately upon their return stateside and songs were assembled for an initial demo entitled Marion ST.EP in the summer of 2008.
The trio began playing around the Denver area much more frequently, sharing the stage with such national stars as RJD2, Clipse, The Swollen Members, and The Flobots and local standouts like Speakeasy Tiger, Kinetix, and The Epilogues. The Foot. began work on their debut full-length album in January of 2009 and continued to test the tracks that would make up the album in a live setting. The album features 10 original songs that provide an uncharacteristically deep insight into the lives and thoughts of three young men teetering upon the next major step of their lives. The Foot. is now proud to announce the release of their debut album, “Primary Colors” in March of 2010. The band will be touring in the spring of 2010 throughout the Midwest in support of the album and will be touring extensively through the rest of 2010 and beyond. Find The Foot. before it finds you!
THE FOOT IS:
Jeff McCollister: sings, synthesizes, thumps
Phil Barrett: shreds, backs up
Noah Shomberg: syncopates, percusses, also backs up Website: http://www.findthefoot.com |

10:00 PM The Foot w/ The Say So Buy Tickets Stronger and louder than ever before, The Say So is complete with Sean Palmer on vocals/guitar, Noah Fisher on guitar, Chris Beeble on bass/keys, and Robbie Spradling on drums. Palmer, Beeble, and Spradling met during their high school years in Arvada, CO, and welcomed Fisher last spring.
Ever since their previous project En Plein Air, they have developed over time and now thrive on driving emotions and guitar riffs deep and faster paced to unsettle and awaken their audience.
Their newly released EP, Something Like Wild, is a tribute to the hard work and patience the boys have endured; for example, the fact they engineered, mixed, and produced the album on their own. The title, Something Like Wild, comes from a lyric in the opening track, “Criminal,” but suggests one of the most prevalent themes for the entire album: breaking the monotony, violently and aggressively if necessary, anything to shake their audience. This album contains their highest energy yet, and each track drives a distinct story of heartache, anger, or frustration to the core.
The Say So is mindful to create sounds and themes derived from their own experiences. The heavy indie-rock sound is layered with raw lyrics that expose the raw hearts of the guys who wrote their songs together. Containing both social, religious, and personal criticisms and reflections, The Say So aims straight for the heart and hits without mistake on every track.
